Dr. Joseph King, MD, has 15 years of clinical experience performing laser vision correction. He has performed over 75,000 laser vision correction procedures, possibly more refractive procedures than any other refractive surgeon in the Pacific Northwest or Western Canada.
Dr. King graduated from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine in Vancouver, Canada in 1992. He completed a postgraduate medical and surgical internship in Victoria, British Columbia at University of BC-affiliated hospitals. Dr. King's ophthalmology specialty training was performed at Case Western Reserve University, St. Luke's Medical Center, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as Chief Resident. Following completion of his ophthalmology residency in 1996, Dr. King completed an additional year of training in ophthalmology, which included specialized training in laser vision correction at the University of South Florida Eye Institute. He has completed numerous courses in laser vision correction. He is certified and has extensive experience using nearly all leading laser systems, including VISX, Intralase, Bausch and Lomb, Nidek, and Alcon lasers.
Dr. King has considerable experience as a refractive surgeon, having performed more than 75,000 laser vision correction procedures. He also has extensive experience in the leadership and management of other laser vision correction centers.
Dr. King served as Medical Director of Restore Vision Centers, Renton, Washington from 2001-2002. Dr. King served as the chief surgeon at LASIK MD Vancouver and LASIK MD Calgary from 2003-2005. He was medical director of several LASIK MD centers in British Columbia and Alberta. Additionally, Dr. King was a staff surgeon at LASIK Vision Institute in Bellevue, Washington and he is a former surgeon with LASIK Plus. Dr. King also served as a Director of the King LASIK group of laser centers.
Dr. King's prior work at corporate investor-owned centers helped create the foundation for Dr. King to open his own physician-owned and operated boutique private practice, King LASIK. At King LASIK, he specializes in the care of patients seeking premium laser vision correction and vision rejuvenation.
A leading refractive surgeon, Dr. King serves as a clinical investigator for various research studies in refractive surgery. As a clinical investigator, he was the first surgeon in the world to perform laser vision correction surgery using the newest generation of custom wavefront-guided technology in 2010. He was the second surgeon in the world to perform treatments with other new laser vision correction software during another recent clinical study. Dr. King is usually one of the first surgeons to introduce new leading technologies in refractive surgery. Over the past decade, Dr. King was the first surgeon in the Northwestern US and Canada to use the Zyoptix XP microkeratome and the Bausch and Lomb Z-100 laser. He performed the first surgery in Western North America using Zyoptix-TS software with the Bausch and Lomb laser and he performed the first iLASIK procedure in Alberta using the Intralase and AMO VISX laser with Wavefront-guided technology and Iris registration.
Dr. King has trained many other LASIK surgeons and he has presented at professional meetings of refractive surgeons.
